Rainy Season Part 2 2015

Rain. Everyday. Not all day but a good dousing every afternoon and or all evening. Enough to inconvenience things at times.  And with night time lows in the 50's I wasn't always happy with the weather. Most of you have been enjoying (or dying of) the un-Portland-like summer. I'm super jealous!  I'm hoping to catch some of it!

We went to a sexual preference (LBGT) anti-violence march on Saturday. The group had hired Julio and his band to play. I received a t-shirt and as we were getting ready to start the march it started to rain. African style drums with real leather don't do well in the rain so we had to leave. The guys were then only paid 100 pesos which covered our transportation there and back via bus. It was a waste of 3 hours.

Julio and I had custom orders consisting of: some pendants, and 3 custom necklaces of varying styles.  We had one stone casualty. Thin tear drop shaped stones are the biggest trouble makers. Sadly, one of my favorite shapes! Sorry Gram! We'll make it up to you! :) The other small problem was that some labradorite beads for my cousin's necklace didn't have a big enough hole drilled. We made all the other parts and I'll assemble it when I get the right beads. The good news is, that means a trip to the bead store! The bad news is, that means a trip to the bead store! The bead store here contains many lovely items NOT with Mexican prices. :) Julio was very happy and really appreciates the feedback and support he's gotten from our American customers. Thank you!

Some myths about my traveling to Mexico:
*It's hot and sunny all the time
*It doesn't rain
*Margaritas and tequila (been there 8 times and haven't had either. And this trip the only alcoholic item I had was one beer with lime and tajin)
*It's only about laying on the beach (I've been to the beach a couple times and only for a few days, and lying on the beach took up about two hours total)
*food and water are dangerous (ok, I know I've had a couple problems but less than some people I know who've had multiple problems eating just in Portland)

I saw and interesting thing on the bus this week as we headed to the central market for a delicious breakfast of barbacoa consomé.  There was a woman applying makeup and curling her eyelashes with a soup spoon! And it worked great!

This has been my shortest visit. My next chance to go won't be until later in September. It'll be longest time between visits. :(

I'm on my way to LA as I write and the man in the seat two away from me has been coughing (I thought he might die so I called the fight attendant and asked for water for him), sniffing and blowing his nose and obviously has the bird flu or mears.

As always let me know if you don't want to receive these! Or if you missed an installment! And as always I love hearing from you!

Hoping all is well!

Serena
