Feb 2016 Part 1

Namaste! :)

I arrived in Mazunte and found my way to Hridaya yoga and meditation center Sunday around 4:30pm. I had taken the 6 hour short winding road bus from Oaxaca to Putchutla (170 pesos) and then caught the local collectivo (10 pesos) for the last 40 mins of my journey.

On our way we stopped for food and a bathroom break. I had stopped at this same place before 2 years prior but at 3 in the morning. This time I was able to order food and take a foto of the kitchen. I had a delicious quesadilla!

My time prior to arriving here was spent with a migraine that I always get when I arrive and a bit of time lounging around with Julio. I also managed to leave my debit card in the ATM machine in Oaxaca. There was a slight problem when I first tried to take out money and then after I got my money I was distracted looking at my receipt and telling Julio what had happened. I have NEVER done that before. I'm waiting for my new card to arrive here at the retreat center. And hoping it does! I have a bit of money left and can get some from my credit card but the fees are hirer. I have a wonderful debit card with Charles Schwab that doesn't not have a foreign transaction fee and refunds all ATM fees.

I missed the first two days of the 21 day retreat. I'm glad I didn't miss more as I'd be left behind in the theories and practice. This Hridaya Hatha yoga is much different than what I'm use to. It's mentally challenging to hold poses for longer than 3 mins in a still meditative state. My mind is often like the monkey squirrel mind running and jumping searching for food. It'll be a good change! There are 2 two hour classes and 1 two hour lecture each day. Sometimes other activities too.  The community is great! It's a very open and living environment to learn in.

So far I've done on with the sudden change of diet. It's vegetarian and they serve lentils, grains and soy (fake meat). Thankfully there is salad and fruit! I've been eating lots of nuts to try to keep up my protein intake as my preference is to not eat soy.

I'm camping and the "bed" provided isn't very cushy. But it's mostly quiet and the other campers are lovely. I'll send fotos of the bathrooms and showers next time!

The current exchange rate is quite favorable right now. One US dollar for around 18 pesos.

Good night! ❤️
Serena
